Hypertension Diagnostics Systems Now Available in Canada

DECEMBER 15, 2008 - PORTLAND, OREGON. Tiba Medical, a provider of non-invasive medical diagnostic systems, today announced that it has obtained a Canadian Medical Device License for its AmbuloTM 2400 ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) systems.

The Ambulo 2400 ABPM system provides physicians in primary care, cardiology and nephrology settings, as well as hypertension researchers, a state-of-the-art tool in diagnosing and treating hypertensive patients. By performing 24-hour blood pressure monitoring studies, physicians and healthcare professionals can obtain a better picture of the patient's "true" blood pressure. 24-hour monitoring provides a complete picture of each patient's blood pressure measurements throughout the day and night. ABPM shows circadian rhythm variability and helps identify the extent of blood pressure dipping at night and the associated morning rise when most heart attacks and strokes occur.

"High blood pressure is amongst the most common reasons that patients visit their doctors. By having a more accurate and complete picture of each patient's blood pressure measurements, the Ambulo 2400 gives healthcare professionals a better way to treat and manage hypertensive patients" said Dr. Arash Tirandaz, MD, FACP, Tiba Medical's Chief Medical Officer. "The incidence of mortality as a result of heart attacks or strokes in a 50-year old subject with uncontrolled hypertension can increase from 8 to 16 times as compared to normotensive subjects. As such, getting a thorough analysis of a patient's blood pressure measurements offers a valuable tool in managing hypertensive patients" said Dr. Tirandaz.

"The Canadian Medical Device License comes on the heels of our US FDA and European Union market clearances and as part of our strategy to expand the availability of our innovative hypertension diagnostics technology to customers worldwide" said Merat Bagha, President of Tiba Medical.

The Ambulo 2400 system has been validated according to the AAMI SP-10 and the British Hypertension Society's protocols, achieving an A/A grade. The system includes many innovations that improve patient comfort and compliance while ensuring accurate and reliable measurements over the life of the system.

The Ambulo 2400 is available for purchase, lease or short-term rental directly from Tiba Medical or through a number of distributors and dealers across the United States, Europe and now Canada.
